About the Trains May Exceed 80 MPH Sign
A train at 80 miles an hour or more arrives much sooner after the warning lights start than drivers expect. MUTCD Section 8B.13 lets a TRAINS MAY EXCEED 80 MPH sign warn of it, on the approaches to a crossing where trains are allowed to run that fast. Table 8B-1's sign reads 80 MPH (130 km/h); change the number for another speed.
