About the Stop Here on Red Sign
Where a traffic signal stands just past a grade crossing, MUTCD Section 8B.11 lets a STOP HERE ON RED sign mark a stop line placed back from the signal, so vehicles waiting for green don't stop on the tracks. The R10-6 sign's arrow points down to the stop line; the R10-6a version curves its arrow over to the lane it applies to. Drawn from FHWA's official artwork.
