About the Exempt Plaque

Federal and state rules make school buses, passenger buses and many hazardous-materials trucks stop at every highway-rail grade crossing. Where the state has designated a crossing exempt, MUTCD Section 8B.05 lets an EXEMPT plaque say so: a white R15-3 plaque below the Crossbuck and, where it helps, a yellow W10-1a plaque below the round advance warning sign. Pick the style to match the sign it goes under.
