About the Emergency Notification Sign

MUTCD Section 8B.12 calls for an Emergency Notification sign at crossings so anyone who sees a vehicle stalled on the tracks, a broken gate or malfunctioning lights can call the railroad. It shows a phone number and the crossing's U.S. DOT inventory number, which tells the dispatcher exactly where the caller is. Put in your own phone number, U.S. DOT crossing number (six digits and a letter) and railroad; the layout follows FHWA's I13-1 detail sheets, with the crossing number white on blue or black on a white panel.
